This is the benchmark aud for conveying the power of the Grateful Dead during one of their great periods. I commend my friend Monte Barry for preserving this gem, as my cassette had worn out years ago. The interplay between Jerry and Phil is astounding.

I once told my wife, (who adores this Dark Star), that if I leave before her, to shoot me into Space with this Dark Star as my soundtrack!

How about this Dark Star played by John Zias, Tom Constanten, and sensational bassist Bradley Rhea? wtf, who? Yep, they're playing this DS recently in Chicago. It's my belief that John and Bradley are the best Jer & Phil modern-day interplay you can hear and witness these days. John and I are old NJ Dead-Head pals from the early 70s. John has played with Phil Lesh. John and TC are playing again in early 2010, hopefully - I believe, w/ more Bradley Rhea.

John's website is full of fantastic live music.

Look, never mind I said anything. Listen to this itty-bitty track, and tell me I'm crazy.

Superb. Thanks for the redirect - I have been listening to the Earth Bombs Mars shows on the Archive for about 5 years now. Connecting them to John Zias is a bonus - many thanks.

Shady Grove from this show is chilling.......

Thanks for your comments. I would encourage anyone interested in hearing this music to contact John and mention me by name. I think these artists could dig some gigs.

I am struggling with even posting this here. He's one of my dearest old musician friends. John is the dude that named me, "Monte Barry at the door." After an initial love of "the live" GD sound - which came after hearing my 1st boot tapes by fall of '72, I started hanging out hugely with the best local musicians. I was a roadie, punk soundman, and collected the cover-charge at the door many times for them. Since the pay was a big deal, the name stuck.

John, his wife, and his daughter were just here and visited me this past June. We all went out and hiked together at a special and very cool place nearby Laramie named "Vedauwoo." While we were driving there, he played a CD of some of his recent live music. That's when he turned me onto bassist Bradley Rhea and him playing together.
